The Film

This is an out and out mass masala movie with the central theme based on the Stockholm syndrome. It is a multi genre quilt with patches of family drama, romance, sentiment, comedy, action, faction, humanism, a message for social reform and an SMS for attitude change in elders.

The Story

Chandu ( Ram) is part of a large joint family and helps his uncles daughter to get married with her fiancé against the approval of the family elders. He earns their ire and is all alone in this free for all world.
He kidnaps Pooja (Genelia) because of an error of judgment of identification. For her, the kidnap comes as a timely relief as she is actually a damsel in distress. She is US of A returned and both her uncles Peddi Nayudu (Kota Srinivasa Rao) and Chinna Nayudu (Jayaprakash Reddy) want her to be the daughter-in-law, with an eye on her enormous wealth. Moreover, both of them are ruthless faction warlords.
Ram takes the help of his family to give shelter to Pooja for some time, until Peddi Nayudu takes her away. The rest of the story deals with how the hero uses his brain, brawn, half truths and true lies, along with the strategic support of McDowel Murthi (Brahmanandam) to win back the heroine with the consent of his antagonists.
All is well that ends well.

The Performance

Ram is all verve and zeal. As he proved in Devadasu , he is pretty swift in fights plus in full swing in the song and dance sequences. In this film, he has shown that he can handle humour and wit also. Genelia gave a decent performance. Both the lead actors did not have much of opportunity to show any high decibel theatrics or subdued histrionics.

Brahmanandam has given a sterling performance. He has the capacity to make you laugh your guts out without actually tickling your ribs. Sunil’s dance spoof on Kamal Hasan’s Sagara Sangamam is quite enjoyable.

Kota Srinivasa Rao and Jayaprakash Reddy have given mature performances as faction leaders. Nazar, Chandra Mohan and Tanikella Bharani are their usual selves. All other actors in supporting roles are adequate in their respective roles.

The Techniques

Though suffering from contrived incidents, the story by Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan ably fits the formula for a successful commercial cinema. The climax could have been more interesting. The director Sreenu Vaitla seems to have cooked up his own recipe of screenplay for mass masala movies. With successful Dubai Seenu and Dhee behind him, Ready may give him a hat-trick of hits.

Cinematography by Prasad Murella is pleasing. Action sequences composed by Peter Hynes are having his brand of breezy belligerence. The choreographers have done their job to the best of their abilities. Music by Devisri Prasad is not superlative, but not cacophonic either. Editing by M R Varma is up to the present day standards.

The Verdict

This is a totally tasty celluloid Telugu full meals with all items right from rice to nice curd, along with sweet and hot. Once is enough for any one desiring to eat a full meal.

The Rating

3 out of 5
