Kotha Bangaru Lokam…

The Synopsis
Balu(Varun Sandesh) and Swapna( Swetha Prasad) are students of intermediate course in a co-educational residential junior college. These two get attracted to each other and over a period of time realize that they are in love. They dream of completing computer engineering, become fat salaried software experts, marry and lead a happy life. These two have a mentor and motivator in their physics lecturer.

One evening they both surreptitiously leave the campus and go for an outing and a second show movie. A photo of these two cuddling each other in a park is captured by a roving lens-man and published in a daily news paper. The Principal (Brahmanadam) rusticates Balu and Swapna. A disturbed Balu goes home to his loving parents (Prakash Raj and Jayasudha). A weeping Swapna is escorted by her angry father (Ahuthi Prasad).
Will they meet again? Have they realized their dreams? The rest of the film deals with answers to these questions.

The Performance

Varun Sandesh entered with Happy Days. With Kotha Bangaru Lokam, he has arrived. He gives a masterly care-free performance. He is certain to stay a long, long time on the silver screen. Swetha Prasad has a dream debut as heroine. She dazzles with her emoting prowess. Prakash Raj, Ahuthi Prasad, Jayasudha and Brahmanandam have etched their roles with aplomb. All other actors including the 30 new faces have done laudable justice to their roles.

The Techniques
Whoever he is, Srikanth Addala, is truly a precious Dussera gift to Tollywood and the cinema-crazy Telugu audience. His story, screenplay, dialogues and direction are simply splendid. Kotha Bangaru Lokam is a study of how a simple love story can be beautifully narrated with a gripping edge-of-the-seat screenplay, a breathtaking denouement and a stunning climax. Addala succeeds in creating the most appropriate mood for each scene with a thoughtful blend of colours, props, symbolism, camera-work and audiography.
Cinematography by Chota K Naidu is brilliant. Editing by Marthand K. Venkatesh accelerates the narration speed. Choreography and action are good and in sync with the narration. Mickey J Meyer disappoints but did not disturb the mood of the movie. Audiography is very good. The production values are high.
The Verdict
This is not a feel-good film…this is a feel-on-top-of-the-world film. This is an exciting youthful love story told in a most imaginative style and an invigoratingly innovative cinematic idiom.
If you miss seeing this movie, then you would have missed the most wonderful cinematic experience.
